You may join me, the leadership staff of BRS, and representatives of the State Rehabilitation Council (SRC) to discuss your experiences with BRS. This would be a special opportunity to let us know how we can best serve those who seek vocational rehabilitation services.

At BRS, we are striving to achieve these goals over the next five years:

Goal 2: To increase employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities, as measured by employment rates and earnings.
Goal 3: To increase access to services for all individuals with disabilities, as measured by numbers of applications in underserved locations.
Goal 4: To create effective partnerships designed to advance employment for Connecticut citizens with disabilities.
You may have suggestions for other goals you may wish for us to consider. The Kennedy Center is partnering with the Barnum Festival to sponsor our third annual juried art show, “Visions from the Heart – An Exhibition of Artists with Disabilities” to be held in June/July 2008 at City Lights Gallery in Bridgeport, CT. Our goals are to showcase the creativity and talent of artists with disabilities and to enable the general public to have opportunities to have more access to and appreciation of this wonderful art. Additionally, there is no fee for entry and the artists will receive prizes, press recognition and an invitation to the Opening Reception on June 18th. We look forward to it being an even bigger success than the last two years.
We would so appreciate if you could help us by distributing the attached Entry Form to any individuals/organization who are affiliated with artists with disabilities. The entry form can also be downloaded from the following websites: www.barnumfestival.com, www.thekennedycenterinc.org or www.visions-from-the-heart.com. Also, any and all help in promoting participation in and publicizing this special show would be wonderful.
Thank you so much. Please contact Ginger Fiore at (203) 332-4535 x207 or gfiore@kennedyctr.org for more information.

Volunteers Needed: Traumatic Brain Injury
Trinity College's Department of Psychology is seeking volunteers who have sustained traumatic brain injury and now experience difficulty with their attention or memory. We are studying the effects of a procedure to improve memory through a series of memory excercises. All volunteers will receive a neuropsychological evaluation before and after treatment, and a course of cognitive rehabilitation for approximately six months. All aspects of the study will be supervised by a licensed psychologist. The information from the study will be confidential; your name will not be associated with any publication. If you wish, the information can be shared with your doctors or therapists. However, no aspects of your participation in this project will affect your ongoing treatment with other therapists in any way. Participation is free of charge and all sessions will take place at Trinity College in Hartford, CT. If you have any questions, or would like to participate, please contact Dr. Sarah Raskin at Sarah.Raskin@trincoll.edu, or call (860) 297-5188 and leave a message.
Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center Survey
If you or someone you know utilizes Assistive Technology, you are invited to participate in a survey. As part of a research project by the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center for the Advancement of Cognitive Technologies (RERC-ACT), housed at the Institute on Disability and Human Development (IDHD) in the Department of Disability and Human Development, University of Illinois at Chicago, the survey focuses on how people with disabilities use cognitive technologies (personal digital assistants, cell phones, augmentative communication devices, tape recorders, etc.) to increase independence.
The Center is interested in gathering information from people with developmental disabilities (age 18+), acquired brain injuries, or problems with memory, as well as from people who provide them support. While there are no direct benefits to individual subjects, it is hoped the information obtained will help technology developers and researchers to create technologies that will promote the independence of people with disabilities.
Participation is voluntary and you can choose to end your involvement at any time. The Center hopes that the information gathered through this survey will help create better technologies in the future for people with disabilities.
The survey is available online at:
http://206.188.20.148/survey/survey.php?sid=62
More information about the survey and the Institute on Disability and Human Development can be found at:
